Our Philosophy
The first time we were introduced to bamboo clothing, we immediately fell in love with its softness. It felt like cashmere or silk. It wasn’t until we learned about bamboo’s unique and natural properties that we came to “believe” in the clothing and wanted to share it with others.
Sustainable clothing is very important to Buchic as we believe in doing our part to protect Mother Earth. Did you know that cotton is the world’s most disastrous crop and accounts for one quarter of all chemical fertilizers and pesticides? The chemicals used on the cotton crops are linked to contamination of ground and surface water; then these chemicals can make their way into our drinking water as well as fish and wildlife eco-systems. Bamboo does not require chemicals, fertilizers or pesticides to grow. In fact, it is a natural woody grass that is the fastest growing in the world.
More and more people are becoming sensitive to clothing and are developing allergies. When we look at the products that our clothing are made from, is it any wonder? Did you know that polyester is petroleum based or that most clothing that advertises its ability to “wick” away moisture uses chemical additives to accomplish this? Bamboo contains a natural agent called “bamboo kun”. This anti-bacterial agent helps the bamboo fabric wick away moisture naturally, keeping the bacteria out of the fabric. Plus its permeability helps keep the fabric odor free. Best of all, bamboo clothing is hypoallergenic and provides UVA protection.
Whether you are doing yoga, running errands or simply running after the kids in our clothing, you’ll be pleased to know that bamboo clothing is stylish, comfortable and durable. As an added bonus, bamboo clothing has insulating properties, keeping you cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter.
We believe that sustainability means something, that organic choices help us do our part as a community and that looking stylish and being comfortable doesn’t have to come at a cost to those around us. Our Bamboo Clothing
Buchic was founded on the principle that we could offer soft, stylish and sustainable bamboo clothing to our customers at an affordable price. We knew that as a company, we could educate consumers on why we should use textiles that have less of an impact on our beautiful planet. We take this commitment seriously and we will only offer textiles that are organic in nature and work with manufacturers who share similar values with us.
The nonprofit group Sustainable Technology Education Project (STEP) defines eco-fashion as clothing “that takes into account the environment, the health of consumers and the working conditions of people in the fashion industry.” These three very specific principles are very important to us as a company. We are proud to only work with manufacturers who take responsibility in their production from start to finish.
Most of our clothing is produced in the United States and a limited amount is imported from China. Regardless of where the garments are made, our manufacturers all have strong principles and comply with:
*Fair Trade- partners promise fair working conditions and wages for their
employees. This means no child labor is employed and no
sweatshops are employed.
*GOTS- they follow Global Organic Textile Standards
*ISO Certified- standards that manufacturers adhere to and compliance is
a priority.
*Oeko Tex 100- certifies that there are no residual chemicals that can be
harmful to human health.
*Low Impact Dyes
*AZO Free Fiber Reactive Dyes- use less water less energy and generate less
waste. Bamboo fibers accepts and holds
dyes well so no dyefixing agents are used
which often contain heavy metals and
formaldehyde.
